Then I Do the Will of God
If I love my friends and neighbors
Even as I love myself,
If I give as I've been prospered,
Not the crumbs that I have left,
If I see a brother stumble,
Reach a hand to help him rise,
Minister comfort to the aged,
Put some gladness in their eyes,
If I teach the lost the gospel,
Show them how to walk therein,
If I convert a soul that sinneth
And hide a multitude of sin,
If I can stand beside a loved one
When his life on earth is done,
And from an anguished heart can cry out,
"Not my will, but Thine be done,"
If I take life's bitter lessons
In trusting faith, yet bear the rod
When He thinks I need chastening,
Then I do the will of God.
If I arise each Sunday morning
My heart free from worldly care,
Glad for a chance to serve my Master
In worship, hymns, refreshing prayer,
If I so some seeds of kindness;
Scatter sunshine on my way,
Thanking God, my blessed Maker,
For each bright and glorious day,
If I see someone despairing;
Put a smile upon his face,
If I love each of God's creatures
In spite of color, creed, or race,
If I do all these and others,
If the path of right I trod,
Then I know without a doubting
That I do the will of God.
