Ten Questions

Greetings: I have been doing a study on the Covenants and was wondering if you would mind answering a few questions. I get different answers for these questions. Just looking for the truth. I do have my thoughts also, but would be very interested with your understanding of the scriptures. – Ron

QUESTIONS.

1. When did the Old Testament end?
Answer: Colossians_2:14; Hebrews_
8:13

2. When did the New Testament start?
Answer: Luke_24:46-49; Acts_2:1ff

3. Did Jesus give any of His commands before the cross or were they the Fathers? Keeping in mind Jesus was a prophet of God the Father before the cross. Duet._18:15-18.
Answer: John_14:8-11

4. What did Jesus mean in Mat.15:24 He says, “I was sent "ONLY" to the lost sheep of the house of Israel?
Answer: Matthew 10:5, 6; Matthew 15:24; Romans 2:10 are passages commonly referred to as the limited commission. The gospel was preached first to the Jew (Acts 2) later to the Gentile (Acts 10).

5. Do prophets give their own commands? I ask this question because Jesus was a prophet. He was anointed prophet at His baptism.
Answer: The work of a prophet was also to “forth tell” i.e. they had a message for the people of their time. On occasions they did “foretell” certain events to come.

6. What law was in affect in those 50 days from His death to Pentecost in Acts 2?
Answer: Refer to the answer to question 1&2

7. Do we have to follow any Old Testaments commands today?
Answer: Again, refer to questions 1&2

8. If so, which ones and how would we determine which ones we had to follow?
Answer: The Old Testament Law (Law of Moses) was given to  Jews, not to Gentiles. Deut. 4:1 God spoke to Moses and said “Now O Israel (Hebrew nation) listen…..”

9. If I follow Old Testament laws (unknowingly) can I fall from Gods grace and be severed from Christ?

Answer:
No one can obey the Old Testament Law or the New Testament Law unknowingly; they were taught it. It was taught to the Hebrews (Deut. 6:7-9) “you shall teach them”. The eunuch was taught by Philip in Acts 8:30-31.

10. Can preachers or teachers preach false doctrine (unknowingly) and still be ok?
Answer: “Ignorance of the law is no excuse”, there is no reason for “ignorance” since the gospel has been preached everywhere to every nation of people
(Romans_16:26) “to all nations”, “all the world” Colossians_1:6, 23. In addition, in Acts_17:30; 2Thessalonians_1:8 the writers address the subject of ignorance. Clearly, God has done His part by sending the gospel to all the people.

We thank you for your questions of interest and I would encourage you to continue to study. I also suggest you build a reference library. You can do that one book at a time if your resources are limited.
There is so much more that could be said on each to these questions but I have tried to be (1) Biblical yet (2) brief in my answers.
