“A
certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had
suffered many things from many physicians. She spent all that
she had and was no better, in fact, she was worse. When she
heard about Jesus, she touched His garment and said, "If only I
may touch His clothes, I shall be made well." Immediately the
fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt that she was
healed of the affliction. Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself
that power had gone out of Him turned around in the crowd and
said, "Who touched my clothes?" But His disciples said, "You see
the multitude thronging you, and you say, ‘Who touched Me?'" He
looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman,
fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came
and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. He said
to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace,
and be healed of your affliction."
(Mark_5:25
– 34)
-
Her name was unimportant. Neither Matthew, Mark, nor Luke
mentions her name in their account of this event. They only
say “a certain woman”
-
We learn that the illness she had was long term (v.25b) - to
be exact, she had been sick for twelve long years.
-
To make bad matters worse, we learn that she spent all her
money trying to get better (v.25c).
-
During that time we learn she went to others for medical
advice (v.26a) but she only grew worse (v.26b).
-
Fortunately for her she found the Great. Physician (v.27)
-
And she reached out for help. She found a compassionate
physician who interrupts what He was doing to address her
problem and the cure was immediate.
-
Because of her testimony (v.33) they became aware of His
power to heal. In addition, He publicly praised her faith.
The Great Physician can help with your problems as well. When
Paul asked for help with his problem, instead of God giving him
what he asked for, He gave him something better.
(2Corinthians_12:9)
You should get to know and trust this
Great Physician and enjoy His blessings as this woman did. You
can be sure she told her friends about this very special day in
her life.
