Wish-bone People
“They wish for, and long for, and sigh; but don’t have
the get-up and try.”
Opportunity
often comes disguised as hard work. People make statements like,
“I wish we had more children attending our services – but – they
refuse to teach a class.
Prov.21:25 reads: “The desire of the
lazy
man
kills him, for his hands
refuse to labor.”
Funny-bone
People
“Life is a joke, and humor blinds the eye;
So when responsibility beckons, they ask sneeringly, “Why?”
This doesn’t mean to refrain from fun or laughter. It is
talking about making light of God’s Word or participating in
humor that is not appropriate. Ephesians 5:4 calls this “foolish
talking or coarse jesting.” Also, in Ecclesiastes 3:4 we are
told that “there is a time to laugh and a time to refrain from
laughter.”
Jaw-bone
People
“They jaw, rave, and cry – Long on talk, but short on
try.”
In Matthew 25:25-26, the servant who had only one talent
(and failed to use it) was called “lazy and wicked.” In God’s
eyes those who are all talk and no work are wicked.
Back-bone People
“Up and at it, they ascend the mountains high. For they
seek, and seek, and try, and try.”
When the Jews went
back to rebuild the wall in
Jerusalem,
they finished it in record time because “they had a mind to
work.” (Nehemiah 4:6)
We
are also told in Eccl.9:10, “Whatever
your hand finds to do, do
it
with your might; for
there is no
work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are
going.”
