The Story of Bathsheba

She was very beautiful 2 Samuel 11:2

  • Beauty can be a blessing Prov 6:25 “Lust not after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids. V.26 For by means of a whorish woman [a man is brought] to a piece of bread “

  • But it comes with a price. Prov. 6:.27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? V.28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? V.29 so he that goes in to his neighbor’s wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent.”

She was happily married

  • Prov 31:10 “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price [is] far above rubies. V.11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. V.12 she will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”

  • Married to an honorable man. She lost her husband to “forbidden fruit”

  • Num 32:23 “behold, you have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.” In addition to losing her husband, she lost her baby.

She Paid a great price.

  • Sin always has a price

  • Prov 13:15 “Good understanding gives favor: but the way of transgressors is hard.”

  • Rom 6:23 “For the wages of sin [is] death”

  • No doubt “the neighbors talked”, so she lost her dignity.

  • She became a broken woman. Shame followed her

God forgave her

She and David had another son, Solomon, who became the King of Israel and built the temple of God in Jerusalem. 1Kings 2:13
