How the Apostles
(and some disciples) Died

Have you ever wondered what happened to the apostles after the church was established. History and verbal traditions give us some answers.

Andrew: Martyred on a cross at Patre, in Achaia Bartholomew: Flayed alive at Albahapolis, in Armenia
James (Jesus' brother): Thrown from the pinnacle of the temple then killed with a club James (son of Zebedee): Beheaded at Jerusalem
John - Died a natural death after being exiled to the mining island of Patmos for most of his life. Judas Iscariot: Hanged himself after betraying Jesus to the Jewish mob
Matthew: Slain in Ethiopia with a sword. Matthias: Stoned then beheaded
Paul: Beheaded at Rome Peter: Crucified head downward
Phillip: Hanged against a pillar at Hieropolis, a city of Pyrygia Simon Zelotes: Crucified in Persia
Thaddeus: Shot to death with arrows Thomas: Killed with a lance at Coromanded, in the East Indies
Barnabas: Was stoned to death at Salonica Jude (brother to Jesus): Shot and killed with arrows at Salonica
Luke (Physician and traveling companion to Paul): Hanged in the country of Greece Mark (Traveling companion of Paul): Dragged by horses through the streets of Alexandria, Egypt until dead.

After reading how these men died, can you sincerely say you have really suffered for the Lord? There are Christians around the world - even today - who suffer great persecution when they become members of the Lord's Church. Let us remember to pray often for them.
