| We want do a study of the Son of God and our
Savior so that we might get to know Jesus better. Even today,
many people “believe in Jesus”. They believe that He was a good
man. They believe that He lived a good moral life, but He was
just a man. Some even say He married a woman whose name was Mary
Magdalene and together they had a child, but they don’t believe
He was deity. Let’s consider the evidence provided by eye
witnesses.
Jesus spoke of His Deity
John records Jesus "If I bear
witness of Myself, My witness is not true”. Again He spoke of His deity,
John_17:1 “Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and
said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also
may glorify You, And now, Oh Father, glorify Me together with Yourself,
with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” They had a
right to expect that His statement, “He came from God”, would be
confirmed by other evidence, and so it is.
John spoke of His Deity
John 5:32
Jesus refers to John the Baptist as a witness when He said “There is
another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He
witnesses of Me is true.”
John_1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God. V.3 All things were made
through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John_1:34
I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."
His Miracles Spoke of His
Deity
John_5:36 “ But I have a
greater witness than John's; for the works which the Father has given Me
to finish--the very works that I do--bear witness of Me, that the Father
has sent Me.” The miracles attest to My mission, and prove by themselves
that nothing less than unlimited power and love could ever produce them.
By my word, I have healed a man who was diseased thirty-eight years. You
see the miracle - the man is before you. Why then do ye not believe and
be saved?”
Jehovah
spoke of His Deity
John_5:37
“And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have
neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.” Matthew_3:16
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water:
and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: and a voice from heaven,
saying, This is my beloved
Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Again in
Matthew_17: While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud
overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying,
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
Others spoke of His deity as well.
Isaiah prophesied about His
deity 2:3-4 Many people shall come and say, “ Come, and let us go up to
the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will
teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths. “For out of
Zion
shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from
Jerusalem.”
Peter spoke concerning His
deity. Matthew_16:16
Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the
living God.”
Paul in Philippians_2:5-6
speaks
concerning the deity of Jesus, "Let this mind be
in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God,
did not consider it robbery to be equal with God."
The record shows that the when centurion and the
guards who were present saw the earthquake and the things that had
happened, they feared greatly, saying, "Turly this was the Son of God."
Matthew 27:54. It is my hope and prayer that we have come to know Jesus
better through this study. Considering the overwhelming evidence
presented, who can deny that He is who He said He is?
